That isn't entirely true. The Lemba tribe of South Africa is linked as one of the 12 tribes of Israel, with DNA relating to the tribe of Aaron.

Then I found this article, which claims that there was a big migration of Southern and Eastern Europeans to various parts of the world during the late 1800s and early 1900. One of those places was South Africa. According my 23andMe composition, both a South African Ancestor and Ashkenazi ancestor entered my DNA from 1710 to 1800, so not sure if that's related or not.

The Eastern European ancestry that showed up in my brother's test could very well be Ashkenazi, which showed up in my dna results, so will have to conduct more research.
